Aubrey Leonard finally got the milestone out of the way.
"It feels amazing," Leonard said. "It's been stressing on me all season wondering if I was going to make it or not, so it's definitely a weight lifted off my shoulders. I've worked very hard outside of practice and outside of season and I'm just glad it's paying off."
Leonard's special night came during a game when Laconia flexed its muscle in Flyway play, beating Lomira 85-19.
Leonard is the sixth player in program history to reach the mark and joins teammate Tierney Madigan in the illustrious club. Classmate Payton Morgan is just 16 points away from getting there as well, which Leonard said shows how unselfish the group is.
"I just think this shows how great our team is at sharing the ball," Leonard said. "Everybody is a scorer, everybody can do everything on our team and that just shows how close knit we all are."
Earlier this week, Leonard also passed the 400-assist mark for her career.
Coach Chris Morgan said Leonard has put in the work to become the versatile player that she is.
"Aubrey has had a great career here and she's a great kid," Morgan said. "I'm really happy for her because she's put time in the game and she comes with great attitude every day so she's easy to coach and easy to cheer for."
Leonard is a three-sport athlete and excels in all three. She was an all-conference libero in volleyball and qualified for state in track in the spring in addition to her basketball success.
She said she has worked hard in all three and also attributed credit to her teammates and coaches.
"It's a lot of work, but all my best friends have been playing these sports with me as long as I can remember," Leonard said. "That has really made it more of a fun experience, it hasn't really felt so tough as it could be.
"Also my coaches are great and that's a big part of why I have so much fun in the sports I play. Each of these sports help me in different aspects for other sports."
Laconia shot well from deep, just as it did in the first meeting between the two teams. The Spartans made 15 3-pointers, led by Finley Morgan and Eva Engel, who combined for nine of them. Morgan scored 15 and Engel had 12.
Morgan said his message pregame was that regardless of how his team shot the ball, it needed to defend at a high level, which he said is even more important considering the part of the season.
"It's February now, so when I talked to the girls about is we want to be peaking right now so we don't want to be creating bad habits," Morgan said. "Last time we played Lomira we shot the lights out so I reminded the girls that it might not be like that tonight so we've got to make sure we come out and we play great defense."
The Spartans shut down Lomira, starting with Christian. She scored just 8 points and did not get many open looks at the basket.
Tierney Madigan had a game-high 23.
