Campbellsport did not have an answer for Josie Christian.

The freshman guard once again led Lomira, this time to a 72-37 win Thursday night in a Flyway matchup against Campbellsport.

She had 27 points, and she was pulled with about 5:00 left in the game.

“We know she’s going to get her shots, and she can create and find everything," coach Liz Cook said. "She's been really good at that.”

Christian is one of two freshmen starting for the Lions this season and is the team's leading scorer by a large margin. She’s currently averaging 24.7 points per game, the next best being senior Savanna Frea, averaging 6.5.

The Cougars (2-10 overall, 1-5 in Flyway) were buried from the start when Lomira pulled ahead around the 12-minute mark, igniting a 22-9 run that lasted a large portion of the first half.

Lomira’s defense was also all over them.

Not one player on Campbellsport cracked double digits. Brittany Reilley, Ava Sabish and MacKenzie Helsell each finished with 8.

The Lions (7-6, 3-3) did a phenomenal job playing a clean and solid game. There was somebody sealing on almost every shot that either team took. Cook said she credits the culture of Lomira girls basketball for their physical presence in the post.

“It’s just something that’s a part of Lomira girls basketball,” Cook said.

Much of Lomira's offensive success not only came from Christian, but also the ability to have ‘one more pass’ and to find the open teammate.

There were numerous occasions where wide open shots were passed up in favor of a closer, although more competitive look. Cook was pleased with Christian’s ability to move the ball.

“She knew she could get to the basket and she’s keeping her head up and seeing where the defense was coming from,” Cook said. “That’s her learning and reading that defense.”
